About the Association

The EMDR Association of Hong Kong was established in May 2002 and has been growing fast since then.

Objectives
1 - to promote EMDR practice, research and education within Hong Kong and the region.

2 - to provide periodical trainings of EMDR for new EMDR professionals, as well as refresher trainings and to arrange for proper internationally recognized certificates to be issued to the trainees.

3 - to enhance the exchange of knowledge and experience among professionals in EMDR.

4 - to arrange for trainings to qualify new facilitators and trainers in Hong Kong with international recognition.

5 - to maintain a register of qualified EMDR clinicians, consultants, facilitators and trainers within Hong Kong.

6 - to inform the general public about EMDR and how to access EMDR professionals for support.

7 - to maintain international relationships and exchange of professional information with other EMDR associations in the world, and in particular with the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).

Prof. Atara Sivan is the founder of the EMDR Association of Hong Kong. She is Professor in the Department of Education Studies of the Hong Kong Baptist University where she serves as a Council member. She obtained her BA and MA in Education majoring in Youth Counseling in Israel and her PhD in Education at the University of Hong Kong. She has completed Level I and II of EMDR and has been using it in her practice in Israel, Europe and Hong Kong. She is also trained as a Gestalt Therapist (Certificate of Advance Level in Gestalt Therapy accredited by APA) in Gestalt Associates Training Los Angeles She worked as a counselor both in Israel and in USA. Having seen the growing need for the use of EMDR in Hong Kong, Prof. Sivan initiated the founding of the EMDR Association of Hong Kong in 2002 and has been serving in its Chairmanship since then. Prof. Sivan is well known both locally and internationally for her research into the areas of youth leisure and mental health, teaching and learning approaches and methods and action research in education. She is constantly invited as Keynote Speaker to international conferences and has published extensively in her areas. She is the 2002 recipient of the International Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Technology and is now serving as the scientific advisor for the development education programmes for children and adolescents both locally and internationally. Living in Hong Kong for the past 18 years, she speaks Mandarin and basic Cantonese.

Prof. Petrus Ng
HonDip, MA, Ph.D, RSW

Prof. Petrus Ng is Professor in the Department of Social Work of Hong Kong Baptist University. He worked as psychiatric social worker with people with mental illness in Hong Kong. He has completed Level I and II of EMDR and has been using it in his practice since 2002. He is also trained as family therapist with Yang Ackerman Institution for the Family and as sex therapist with The Florida Postgraduate Sex Therapy Training Institute. He offers marital and sex counselling to persons and couples in NGOs and has been using EMDR with clients with anxiety disorder, depression and PTSD. His research interests are psychiatric rehabilitation and mental health, working with people with a disability and psychotherapy.

Carolyn Neunuebel is a registered nurse with a masters degree in Counseling and is a Clinical Specialist in adult psychiatric and mental health nursing. She has worked as a therapist for 18 years, 17 of those in Hong Kong in private practice. Her areas of specialty are trauma, PTSD, survivors of sexual abuse, as well as depression, anxiety, eating disorders and relationship problems. Completed EMDR training in Level II in 1995, she uses EMDR with 50% of her clients, of whom 20-30% are Asian. She is the co-founder of the EMDR Association of Hong Kong, and was the co-Chairman of the Association for two years. Carolyn has been trained as an EMDR Facilitator by trainers from the EMDR Institute (US). As a Facilitator she plays a significant role in EMDR training and supervision of local practitioners in Hong Kong. Recently she joined the EMDR-Humanitarian Assistance Programs (HAP) in its provision of special training to local practitioners in Thailand to assist those that were impacted by the Southeast Asia tsunami. In addition to her practice Carolyn has been a lecturer at Hong Kong Shue Yan College on Physiological Psychology and is conducting seminars and workshops on a wide range of topics related to mental health and counseling in Hong Kong. She is a member of EMDRIA, an international organization of EMDR practitioners. Carolyn has spent nearly 40 years in Asia and speaks Mandarin and basic Cantonese.

Losana Chan
B.Sc., M.Div, M.A

Losana Chan obtained her B.Sc. in Counselling Psychology (USA), M.Div. in Pastoral Care, Western Seminary, Oregon (USA) and M.A. in Counselling, Western Seminary, Oregon (USA). She worked as a Mental Health Assistant in Chinese Social Service Center of Portland, Oregon, USA. Currently, she is a senior lecturer at the Hong Kong Shue Yan College, where she teaches a wide range of subjects including theory and techniques of counseling and psychotherapy, individual practicum, career counseling, gerontological counseling, personal growth, group counseling, child and adolescent counseling, psychological assessment and field practice. Losana also works as a professional counselor in her own practice in Hong Kong specializing in: spiritual counselling, mood disorders, relational problems, career counselling and child and adolescent counselling. She has completed the EMDR Training Part 2 in 2002 and recently the Facilitator Course with the trainers of EMDR Institute (US). In that capacity she contributes to the EMDR training of local practitioners in Hong Kong.
